Shadowed Depths

Below the Sea of Silt exists the Grottoes of Gloom, a series of caverns filled with toxic fumes.

The darkest depths of these caverns, the Trench and the Fungal Forests. The people who inhabit these areas place importance on cleanliness, mercy, honesty, and justice.  

Common occupations for people of this culture are Guards, Stewards, Knights, Custodians, Librarians, Wardens, Detectives, Bounty Hunter, Jailers, and Servants to name a few.  

The cuisine of this culture is specific to the flora and fauna of the associated region, but most of their food consists of ???  

The political system implemented in this culture tend towards ???  

When creating someone from this culture, your character has the following traits.

Proficiences

  • Language : Undaakian, Imperial

  • Proficiences : Two Skills of your choice, 1 set of Tools, Net, Warhammer, Maul, and Flail.

Features

  • This culture is inscrutable(word choice?), life is a constant struggle between being captured and imprisoned by those who live above you, understanding your surroundings and a keen eye are required for continued survival. +1 to Wisdom and you cannot be Surprised while your are conscious.

  • Capturing prisoners and escaping capture are key to survival in these cultures as those above seek subjugation over those below, and those below seek liberation from those above. You can make the Grapple and Escape a Grapple as Bonus Actions instead of as Actions.

 

ORIGIN SETUP

  Choose one of the following Regions

  • The Trench

  • Fungal Forests

When you select your Region there might be a Territory within said Region to select alternative features from. Additionally, some Territories include a City, which simply increases the list of features you can choose from. After you have decided on your character's origin, select two features from the combination of Region, Territory, and City where applicable.

The Trench(Region)

Features

  • The Trench is part of the Grottoes of Gloom, these are lands bathed in darkness as the light of the Sun and Moons is blocked by the Miasma above. You gain Darkvision 60ft.

  • This land is ravaged and ruined, an air of hopelessness permeates these lands. Only those with the will to press onward in the most desperate of circumstances can persist. Once per day when you make a Death Saving throw, instead of rolling, you can choose to automatically succeed one Death Saving throw.

  • You can replace one of the features from the Trench with the feature below if you are from The Askr Storm.

    The Askr Storm is a neverending tempest of Miasma, you have been constantly exposed to it, even within shelters. You gain Resistance to Necrotic Damage.

    The constant haze of the Askr Storm makes navigating difficult, you have developed a sixth sense for navigating with limited vision. You gain Blindsight 10ft.

  • You can replace one of the features from the Trench with the feature below if you are from Holgren. Additionally, since the City of Holgren is located within the Trench you can also replace one feature from the Trench with the Holgren Origin Feature.

    Holgren, The Hollow City, ruled by Hvitna Hilmir, is a city that exemplifies freedom and liberty. The people here might be prisoners of the Askr Storm, but their King made it so they'd never be slaves to anyone's will. You have Advantage on Saving Throws against being Charmed.

    Hvitna Hilmir is a powerful being with draconic origins, the people of Holgren consider it proper to speak in the King’s tongue. You can speak, read, and write Draconic.

  • You can replace one of the features from the Trench with either of the features below if you are from Illrtyr.

    The remains of an ancient being perpetually decays in these lands, at one time it was a colossus, some great demi-god of war from a bygone age, now rotten and corrupt in its decay. Wrathful spirits of ancient warriors linger here. You have advantage on Saving throws against being Frightened.

  • You can replace one or both of the features from the Trench with either of the features below if you are from Czaurinthia.

    Czaurinthia is a ruin of the old world. The people who live here survive off of the refuse of the past, scavenging what they can. If you have Proficiency in Investigation it becomes Expertise.

Fungal Forests(Region)

Features

  • These massive, sprawling forests of Giant Mushrooms are constantly filled with the spores of a multitude of moulds and fungi The people here have learned to live off of these fungi. You gain proficiency in a Healer’s Kit and Herbalist’s Kit

  • Many people are hunted by either the Jailers of the City of Spiders or the Soul Wardens, under constant threat the people of this region have learned to avoid capture. If you have Proficiency in Stealth it becomes Expertise.

  • You can replace one of the features from the Fungal Forests with the feature below if you are from Snaerfugl Canyon.

    This Canyon has the highest density of fungal spores. The air is filled with them to the point of it looking like a mist or haze, and the ground is blanketed with powder. You gain Resistance to Poison Damage and Advantage on Saving Throws against being Poisoned.

  • You can replace one of the features from the Fungal Forests with the feature below if you are from Blotaalfr.

    The lands of Blotaalfr are filled with many small lakes and rivers, crisscrossing like a lattice. Travel by water is commonplace for travelers. You have a swimming speed equal to your movement speed.

  • You can replace one of the features from the Fungal Forests with the feature below if you are from Gnae Fodr. Additionally, since the City of Gnae Fodr is located within Blotaalfr you can also replace one feature from the Fungal Forests with a Blotaalfr Origin Feature.

    Within the City of Spiders the citizens live as prisoners, their homes are cells within a massive tower patrolled by guards. Escape is difficult, but possible, with the right tools. If you have proficiency in Thieves Tools it instead becomes Expertise.

    While some citizens are prisoners, others have earned the right to be guards. Patrolling the tower city of Gnae Fodr, death by those you keep watch over is always around the corner. Their weapon of choice, poison. You gain Proficiency in Poisoner’s Kit.

  • You can replace one of the features from the Fungal Forests with the feature below if you are from Zluudonia.

    Few make this land their home. It is a dense jungle. It is home to both the Anak, bat-like monsters composed to gemstone and the Soul Wardens. Hiding and fighting are no use, only the swift survive. Increase your Walking Speed by 10ft.

  • You can replace one of the features from the Fungal Forests with the feature below if you are from Craelkania Canyon.

    This land is a swampy riverbed beset by creatures known as the Chomn, aggressive parasitic spirits, similar to nature spirits known as Eidolons. You gain resistance to Radiant Damage.
